Canon: Which Witch? by Eva Ibbotson

Canon Point: Before her turn in the competition.
Background:
Belladonna was born a white witch in the small, sleepy English town of Todcaster. Unfortunately, as she belongs to a coven of proper black witches, her overall loveliness and penchant for magic that helps instead of harms has made her a bit of a social outcast. And that includes to herself. All she longs for is to belong: to be downright awful and nasty just like all the other great witches that surround her.
Nothing has inspired her to want to be the worst she can be more than falling head-over-heels for Arriman the Awful, the wizard of Darkington Hall, who announced his intention to marry the most evil witch he could find. Now, she's determined to find a way to prove herself despite not having a single bad bone in her body.
Personality:
Belladonna is sweet and kind. When you picture a white witch, she's about everything you'd expect: a dictionary definition of goodness. She values politeness, always does what she can to help the people around her, and is absolutely and thoroughly disgusted by her own nature. The society of witchcraft in which she resides care only for blackness, and so she idolizes wickedness and strives to be bad above all else. She moves forward to harness her ideal self with unending determination, waking up every morning assuring herself to be extra and thoroughly nasty. Despite her daily failure at realizing her dark desires and despite the way that her peers continue to shun her, Belladonna has the sort of internal strength not to let herself falter from her forward path.
Weaknesses/Temptations: Being able to perform black magic, marriage to Arriman, her very own familiar, being feared, being an accepted member of a witch's coven.

Powers/Abilities:
All forms of white magic, generally speaking:
- Healing (physically, mentally, all living creatures including plants)
- Transformation (of the things around her, only into positive things)
- Conjuring (only kindly things)
- Blooms soft grass and lovely flowers where she steps (totally involuntary, and I expect these all to wilt instantly in Hell's soil)
- Ability to understand and communicate with animals and other such creatures
Items: a mirror that shows what Arriman is doing at any given point in time.
